| cAugust 1, 1921 P.D. | Things go horribly wrong |
| 1 | The line in Field of Dishonor "Some historians insisted that only the Warshawski sail and the relief expeditions mounted by other members of the recently formed Solarian League had saved the planet at all..." may mean that the Solarian League was 'recently formed' at the time of the Final War, or that it was formed much later, contemporaneous to the development of the Warshawski sail.
Of course, it seems a little unlikely that a world on the verge of a massive war would also be a founding member of an interstellar alliance. So... seeing that I chose the first interpretation probably means the second is the correct one. |
| 2 | On Basilisk Station implies a date later than 1276 P.D. I suspect that this can be 'resolved' by allowing for the timeframe of 1273 - 1277 P.D. to encompass the initial development and overall refinement of both the gravity detectors and alpha node/sail systems.
I do find it a mite odd that a world still so battered more than 200 T-years after the Final War that it required interstellar relief missions would have the time and resources to sink into cutting-edge hyper-physics. |
| 3 | There are several rather vague references to the timing of the Grayson Civil War. They distill down to implying that it was "six hundred years ago" or "four hundred years" after settling Grayson. Those two types of comments imply the passage of one thousand years, which is also mentioned by several characters in the series. Having been settled in 988 P.D., we have just a bit over 900 years pass to the begining of the series, so to reconsile the two, I split the difference and settled on c1350 P.D. as an estimated date. |
| 4 | Chapter One of The Shadow of Saganami clearly states that Saganami's Final Action took place during the reign of Queen Adrienne, which rather specifically places The Battle of Carson during the time frame of 1669 P.D to 1681 P.D. I have yet to make any corrections on this point. |
| 5 | On Basilisk Station states that this happened "almost a hundred and fifty Manticoran years before", implying that the date may go almost as far back as 1640 P.D., but since More Than Honor explicitly states that Adrienne became queen in 1669 P.D., it can not have happened any earlier than that (which would actually be only about 133 Manticoran years earlier). |
| 6 | The Long Way Home states that Prolong has been available for sixty-four T-years prior to the Attica Avalanche of 275 A.L. |
| 7 | On Basilisk Station implies a date of 1888 P.D., while Echoes of Honor implies a date of not long after 1873 P.D. (in the immediate aftermath of Roger III's death), and David has stated that it has been adjusted to 1880 P.D. It is from this value that several birthdates have been derived, which causes some problems (like the fact that Thomas Ramirez was supposed to have been twelve when Trevor's Star fell, but also ten years older than Andrew LaFollet - which would be in the right ballpark if Trevor's Star fell about 1873-ish P.D.). |
| 8 | Echoes of Honor implies a date of about 1873 P.D., while More Than Honor explicity lists it as 1883 P.D. |
| 10 | I suspect this should be 1905 P.D., but that would unreasonably compress the timeframe for the events in Field of Dishonor.
The conversation at the start of Flag in Exile between High Admiral Matthews and Protector Benjamin appears to have taken place in the early January 1906 P.D. time-frame and First Nightingale had already occurred. Just as clearly, Honor's visits to the Landing City Dueling Grounds had already happened, as well. Then, again, Honor's comment about the year being 4009 or 4010 would mean that she (and GNS Terrible) had entered Grayson service in 1907 or 1908 P.D., more than a year after First Nightingale and closer to two years after the start of the war. |
| 11 | Echoes of Honor states that the christening took place on "the first anniversary, to the minute, of Grayson’s receipt of INS’s broadcast of Honor Harrington’s execution." We know that the report of her "execution" was recorded January 24, 1912, and transmission time from Nouveau Paris must have been a few weeks, so in the absence of more detailed information, I have picked this date. |
| 12 | The Universe of Honor Harrington at the end of More Than Honor clearly states the 1502PD development of a practical counter-grav system, yet in the same volume, in A Beautiful Friendship, which takes place approximately 25 years prior to 1502PD, Stephani Harrington has easy access to a man-portable counter-grav system. |
